SOLENO RECYCLING is one of our ECOLEADERS, and Development and Procurement Manager Guillaume Villemure sees many benefits in their involvement with the Program, even though the principles behind sustainable development were already a part of the business’ culture. The majority of SOLENO RECYCLING’s stock is held by SOLENO, a company that specializes in storm water management.

“THE ECORESPONSIBLETM CERTIFICATION LEAD US TO INCREASE OUR AWARENESS ABOUT SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT. SINCE WE’VE STARTED APPLYING THE ECORESPONSIBLETM APPROACH, WE’VE SEEN IMPROVEMENT IN OUR COMMUNICATION ABOUT SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT BETWEEN FACTORIES, AND ALSO IN OUR GOOD DEEDS THAT HAVE AN IMPACT FROM ONE SITE TO ANOTHER. IT’S A SHARED LEARNING PROCESS WITH AN EXTREMELY POSITIVE IMPACT ON OUR OVERALL SOCIAL INVOLVMENT.”

SOLENO RECYCLING focuses its activities on recycling plastic from curbside collection, notably detergent containers. Its team of a hundred or so employees, most of whom are handicapped or disabled, receives bundles of plastic purchased from recyclers, processes the materials into pellets, filters out imperfections and performs a final quality control.

The annual volume of treated recycled material stands at over 70 million polyethylene containers. This source material is then turned into storm water drainage pipes and French drains used by SOLENO, thereby allowing for increased reuse of the products.
